This environment must protect the rights of library users, the University and its employees without compromising the values that we embrace. Those values are embodied in the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.archives.gov\/exhibits\/charters\/bill_of_rights_transcript.html\">First Amendment of the <em>US Constitution<\/em><\/a> and the <em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.ala.org\/advocacy\/intfreedom\/librarybill\">ALA Library Bill of Rights<\/a><\/em>.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/old.lib.utk.edu\/about\/mission-and-vision\/\">University of Tennessee Libraries Mission and Vision Statement<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Guiding Principles<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>UT Libraries provides electronic information access to students, faculty, scholars, and staff to support their teaching,learning, scholarship, and research  <a href=\"http:\/\/old.lib.utk.edu\/about\/policies\/electronic-resource-use\/\">UT Libraries Electronic Resource Use Policy<\/a><\/li>\n<li>The University Libraries respects the privacy of users but can not guarantee it<\/li>\n<li>The University Libraries neither restricts lawful access to materials nor protects library users from information they may find offensive<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Policies<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li> The use of open access workstations for primary library research and information seeking purposes has priority over all other uses<\/li>\n<li> Members of the university community engaged in accessing library and other information resources have priority over other users<\/li>\n<li> Members of the general public using open access workstations in the Libraries are subject to this policy and must observe the Libraries&#8217; regulations<\/li>\n<li>Library staff offer assistance, guidance, and instruction on using the Internet as a research and information resource<\/li>\n<li> Library staff do not monitor and have no control over the information accessed on the workstations in the Libraries&#8217; buildings<\/li>\n<li> Children using UT Libraries&#8217; resources must be accompanied by a responsible adult<\/li>\n<li>All uses of computing and networking resources must be legal and conform to the <i><a href=\"http:\/\/policy.tennessee.edu\/it_policy\/it0110\/\">UT Use of Information Technology Resources<\/a><\/i> Policy IT0110<\/li>\n<li>All disruptive or harassing users may be subject to arrest or removal by law enforcement officials and to revocation of computer and \/or library access privileges.
