{"id":10850,"date":"2017-03-14T15:36:19","date_gmt":"2017-03-14T19:36:19","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/live-utk-volumes.pantheonsite.io\/?p=10850"},"modified":"2017-03-14T15:36:19","modified_gmt":"2017-03-14T19:36:19","slug":"meet-samantha","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/old.lib.utk.edu\/news\/2017\/03\/meet-samantha\/","title":{"rendered":"Meet UT Libraries: Samantha Mathews"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/AX9NFlizFcM?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Samantha Mathews joined UT Libraries in May 2016 as a Senior Library Associate in Acquisitions and Continuing Resources.\u00a0 When you check out a book, Samantha or someone in her department likely ordered and processed it.\u00a0 Watch or read more to hear about Samantha&#8217;s exciting hobbies (hint: it involves the circus).<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><strong>Where were you born and raised?<img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignright wp-image-10851\" src=\"http:\/\/live-utk-volumes.pantheonsite.io\/files\/2017\/03\/Samantha-1.jpg\" alt=\"samantha mathews headshot\" width=\"282\" height=\"401\" \/><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Chicago, Illinois<\/p>\n<p><strong>What is the farthest away you&#8217;ve been from Knoxville?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Bridge of Sighs in Venice, Italy<\/p>\n<p><strong>What&#8217;s your favorite thing about working at UT Libraries?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>My favorite thing is that I get to go to the library everyday!\u00a0 Growing up, a fun Friday night out was a trip to the local library.\u00a0 Once, I was trying to check out a book that had recently been acquired and I was frustrated that it was taking so long to get to me.\u00a0 Now I am the person ordering those books and I see how much work has to be done before a book can be put on the shelves.\u00a0 I feel privileged to hold such a position.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Which books are on your bedside table?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><em>The Six Wives of Henry VIII <\/em>by Alison Wier, because the antics of the Tudor court fascinate me, and Dante&#8217;s <em>Divine Comedy <\/em>because I am taking a class on it.<\/p>\n<p><strong>What was your job before you came to the library?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>I taught ballet at the Knoxville Dance Project and I still do!<\/p>\n<p><strong>What is your favorite hobby?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>After work I can often be found at Crossfit Ktown.\u00a0 Definitely NOT doing crossfit, but hanging from the ceiling, training on various circus apparatus.\u00a0 I am a semi-professional circus performer with Knoxville Aerial Arts.\u00a0 Our next show is a fundraiser for Dolly Parton&#8217;s Imagination Library.\u00a0 If I got to meet Dolly, that would be a dream come true!<\/p>\n<p><strong>Do you have any pets?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>I have a tiny kitten names Bustopher Jones, named after the cat from <em>Old Possum&#8217;s Book of Practical Cats <\/em>by T.S.
