\"\"<\/a>The UT Libraries has won two awards in the Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE) District III awards competition. The awards recognize excellence in alumni relations, fundraising, communications, and marketing.<\/p>\n

The 2016-2017 edition of the Libraries\u2019 magazine, the Library Development Review<\/em><\/a>, received the Grand Award in the Periodical category and an award of Special Merit for Editorial Design. The Library Development Review<\/em> is an annual report on acquisitions, events, library initiatives, and donor gifts.

\nThe centerpiece of the 2016-2017 issue is one of the UT Libraries\u2019 newest digital collections, the Virginia P. Moore Collection. Virginia Moore was Tennessee\u2019s first home demonstration agent, and in 1914 she became the first director in charge of home demonstration work in UT\u2019s newly-formed Division of Extension.<\/p>\n

The Virginia P. Moore Collection demonstrates the research value of unique manuscript collections that embody our shared history. Photographs and documents in the collection are a testimony to the Progressive movement of the late nineteenth and early twentieth century that created land-grant colleges, established agricultural experiment stations, and sent demonstration agents into rural areas to improve farming and homemaking practices.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a>In honor of the \u201ctomato clubs\u201d Virginia Moore formed in rural areas across Tennessee to teach gardening, canning, and other household skills to young girls, the magazine\u2019s cover features an image of a tomato that Virginia Moore herself had cut out and pasted into a handmade recipe book. As a special insert, an envelope at the centerfold includes reproductions of tomato recipes (Tomato Fritters, Tomato Marmalade, etc.) from Moore\u2019s collection.<\/p>\n

The Library Development Review <\/em>is edited and designed by the UT Libraries\u2019 Marketing and Communications team. Library faculty and staff members contribute written content for the magazine.<\/p>\n

CASE\u2019s District III includes Alabama, Florida, Georgia,
\nKentucky, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, and Virginia.<\/p>\n
