That is according to the Association of Research\nLibraries (ARL), a coalition of 124 major research libraries in the US and\nCanada including the National Library of Medicine and Library of Congress.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"alignright is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/live-utk-volumes.pantheonsite.io\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/11\/Hodges-floor-2-table-talk-scaled.jpg\" alt=\"University of Tennessee students studying at a table at Hodges Library\" class=\"wp-image-13656\" width=\"512\" height=\"342\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Among\nall public and private university libraries, the UT Libraries ranks 42<sup>nd<\/sup>\non measures of investment in collections and staffing. This is up from 44<sup>th<\/sup><sup>&nbsp;<\/sup>last year and 47<sup> th<\/sup> just\ntwo years ago!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>ARL\ngathers and publishes statistics annually on the collections, expenditures, and\nstaffing of member libraries. The most recently reported data describe the\n2017\u20132018 academic year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The\ndata reveal how a top-tier academic library opens doors for learning and\nresearch.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp;\u201cWe get excited about the more than 2 million\nvisitors we see each year, but the ARL rankings remind us of what our library\nusers can do both in the libraries and beyond,\u201d Steve Smith, UT\u2019s dean of\nlibraries, commented.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As\nreflected in the most recent ARL statistics, UT Libraries users can:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>Download journal articles from our 133,000 electronic serials<\/li><li>Check out some of our 3.6 million volumes<\/li><li>Browse through our 1 million e-books<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe\nwant to be the best we can be for our Volunteer family of students and\nresearchers,\u201d Smith said. \u201cSo we\u2019re constantly working on ways to improve.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img src=\"https:\/\/live-utk-volumes.pantheonsite.io\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/11\/ARL_rankings-01-2-1024x828.jpg\" alt=\"a few statistics\" class=\"wp-image-13676\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The University of Tennessee Libraries ranks&nbsp;23rd&nbsp;among US public research university libraries.
