How can one measure a scholar’s impact on his or her discipline? Dr. James Pringle<\/strong> will speak on “Citation Impact and Research Evaluation<\/strong>” on Tuesday<\/strong>, August 31<\/strong>, 2:30 p.m.<\/strong>, in the Hodges Library Auditorium<\/strong>. This is a free event sponsored by the UT Libraries and the ORNL Research Library.<\/p>\n

Citation metrics are used to:
\n\u2022 demonstrate research impact and scholarly achievement
\n\u2022 evaluate funding applications
\n\u2022 build research teams
\n\u2022 manage journal collections<\/p>\n

This presentation will:
\n\u2022 look at the role of citations in the evolving process of scholarly research and communications
\n\u2022 provide an overview of citation metrics
\n\u2022 survey critical issues for the future<\/p>\n

This workshop will provide an overview of ways to analyze scholarly output, including citation counts, the h-Index, the Eigenfactor, and impact factors. Web of Science and Journal Citation Reports will be demonstrated during the hands-on portion of the session. Instructors: Donna Braquet, Associate Professor, Life Sciences Librarian; Peter Fernandez, Assistant Professor, Agriculture and Natural Resources Librarian.
