Knowing how to manage, share, and protect your research data is crucial to your academic and professional success.<\/p>\n

February 8-12, 2016, is \u201cLove Your Data\u201d week, and UT is one of 24 universities participating in this nationwide event that will take place entirely on social media. Join the conversation, follow the activities, and get organized.<\/p>\n

Follow us on social media — facebook.com\/utklibraries<\/a> and twitter.com\/utklibraries<\/a> \u2013 for daily tips and activities. We\u2019ll point out helpful resources and share success (and horror) stories. We hope you\u2019ll share your own experiences and helpful tips to keep the conversation lively. Over the course of five days, the \u201cLove Your Data\u201d event will guide you through five activities to help get your data organized, secure, and ready for write-up, sharing and reuse. Each day will have a different theme:<\/p>\n

Monday, Feb. 8 \u2013\u201cData: Keep it safe.\u201d<\/strong>
\nWhere do you keep your data? Do you know the university\u2019s policy on storing data? Learn about backups, cloud storage, and data snapshots.\u00a0 Read Monday’s blog post to learn more about how to keep your data safe.<\/a><\/em><\/p>\n

Tuesday, Feb. 9 \u2013 \u201cIt\u2019s the 21st century. Do you know where your data are?<\/strong>
\nWould you change anything about your file naming scheme now, if you could? What tools do you use to keep your files organized?\u00a0 Read Tuesday’s blog post to learn more about how to organize your data.<\/em><\/a><\/p>\n

Wednesday, Feb. 10 \u2013 \u201cDocument. Document. Document.\u201d<\/strong>
\nMetadata has been called \u201cA love note to the future.\u201d Be kind to your future self and others: write everything down so you can understand it in the future and make your data reuseable.\u00a0 Read Wednesday’s blog post to learn more about the importance of writing down information about your data.<\/a><\/em><\/p>\n

Thursday, Feb. 11 \u2013 \u201cGet credit. Give yourself and your data an identity.\u201d<\/strong>
\nDistinguish yourself from other researchers with ORCID, a unique author ID. Learn about depositing data in a subject repository. Get a DOI for your data so it\u2019s easy for others to find.\u00a0 Read Thursday’s blog post to learn more about giving yourself and your data an identity.<\/em><\/a><\/p>\n

Friday, Feb. 12 \u2013 \u201cOpen Data, Open Research, Open Publishing.\u201d<\/strong>
