Hodges Library is kept in the Betsey B. Creekmore Special Collections and University Archives. Containing over 70,000 titles, our collection represents over 550 years of printed materials, beginning with a leaf of the Gutenberg Bible (1454-55), the first book printed in Europe. The holdings include many titles published before 1700 and several thousand published during the 18<sup>th<\/sup>century.\u00a0The vast majority of the\u00a0books\u00a0have publication dates from 1800 to the present.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Our broad&nbsp;rare&nbsp;books&nbsp;collection spans a range of subject areas, focusing heavily on the humanities. A partial list of significant collection areas includes:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>Southeastern Native American History<\/li><li>Great Smoky Mountains Regional Collection<\/li><li>Naseeb Shaheen Early Modern Bible Collection<\/li><li>John C. Hodges Collection of William Congreve<\/li><li>Medieval and Renaissance Studies Facsimiles<\/li><li>Jane Austen First Editions and Secondary Material<\/li><li>Moonshine and Distillation Collection<\/li><li>Patricia Cornwell Collection<\/li><li>Contemporary Artists\u2019&nbsp;Books<\/li><li>Book History Teaching Collection<\/li><li>Tennessee Authors<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Requesting Material:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Walk in researchers are welcome for Rare Book requests if the materials are on site and the reading room is not at capacity. If you are requesting both Rare Books and archival material, you will need to make an appointment at least 5 days in advance through your research account.
